“Los indígenas no saben más que tejer canastros”. Despojo sobre las tierras del resguardo de Cañasgordas, al noroccidente de Colombia (1886-1920)

This article intends to describe the most relevant factors affecting the configuration the territory of the resguardo of San Carlos de Cañasgodas from late xix to early xx centuries, as this is the most important colonial entity of this sort in Antioquia. The study shows how in spite of the action/omission of the State on the indigenous’ life and territory, the influence of local powers seeking for land control, and a social context signed by ethnic segregation that justified the deprivation of their lands, the indigenous people made to keep and restore their territory based on the strength of their cultural inheritance.El artículo busca mostrar aspectos relevantes sobre la construcción del territorio en el más importante resguardo colonial de Antioquia, el de San Carlos de Cañasgordas, a finales del siglo xix y principios del xx. Frente a la acción y omisión del Estado sobre la vida y las tierras de los indígena, y bajo el influjo de los poderes locales que buscaron el control sobre la tierra, los indígenas consiguieron mantener y reconstruir su territorio apoyados en sus patrones culturales, en un entorno social marcado por la segregación étnica que justificó culturalmente el despojo sobre la tierra
